A new care adventure for Andrea

Woman stands outside of care home smiling

Andrea Bacon has taken on the role of home manager at Cedar Grange Residential and Nursing Home in Launceston.

Formerly a director of care for a group of 28 homes in Somerset, Andrea has moved to Cornwall with her husband and couldn’t be happier with her new position.

“Getting back to the coal face during Covid when everyone in care needed to leave their desks and help out, made me realise how much I missed working with residents on a daily basis,” she said. “Seeing their smiles and happiness genuinely makes my day.”

Previously run by Cornwall Care, Cedar Grange is now part of the award-winning not-for-profit provider, Sanctuary Care.

The home, which enjoys far-reaching views of the local countryside, has 60 ensuite rooms and is divided into four units – each with its own lounge and diner, and kitchenettes where residents can make their own snacks.

Two new activity coordinators, Roxanne and Lesley, have recently joined the Cedar Grange team.

“Enriching lives is what Sanctuary Care is all about and offering a vibrant activities programme is at the heart of what we do,” said Andrea. “We’ve invited two of our local schools to come in, a PAT dog makes regular visits and a residents’ gardening club has been started.

“On 16 December we’re holding a Christmas Fayre that will include stallholders, a nativity with animals and a big raffle.

“We’re part of the Launceston community. Many of our staff live there, most of our residents come from the area and we value as much local interaction as possible.

“I’m so pleased to be at Cedar Grange. For me, it’s the start of a new care adventure.”
