Some older adults who live on their own can often spend long periods of time without any company. To them, our day care centres give them an opportunity to get out and meet people. They can help people to establish a new social circle, which can lead to lasting friendships.
Promoting living well in later life
The services our day care centres provide help and support people living independently in the community, helping them to live well in later life. They enable older people to embark on new friendships, in a setting where they feel relaxed. With activities, delicious home-cooked dinners and an abundance of tea, coffee and freshly-baked cakes – there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
What are day care services?
If someone is interested in day care, a member of our dedicated team will come and meet them in their home, to find out more about who they are, what they enjoy and their needs. For example, someone may have dementia and may find reminiscence activities really therapeutic, or another client may use a wheelchair and need a little more practical assistance.
With a taster day, you can have a sneak preview of what you can enjoy, to see if it’s for you.
At our day care centres, we offer morning, afternoon and full day sessions. Local elderly people can enjoy a wide range of activities tailored to what they enjoy doing as well as trying something new. The sessions are flexible to people’s choices, whether you fancy a particular morning each week or would like to come along every day.
- Music and singing
- Puzzles and games
- Gentle exercise
- Arts and crafts
Jacqui Brown manages Westmead Day Care Centre in Droitwich and says the service is a wonderful way to reduce social isolation.
“Some people live alone and may only see a carer twice a day, so the social side of this is really important. It’s so nice to see friendships growing. People ask about each other if someone isn’t there one day and it’s really lovely to see.”
Hear more from our clients
“I would come every day if I could, I am a wheelchair user and it is very difficult for me to get out and meet people. I am surrounded by neighbours where I live, but my wheelchair makes it difficult to meet them. Coming here I have room to move around in my chair and I have made some good friends.” - John, who has been coming to Westmead Day Care Centre twice a week for over a year
“It helps me to relax coming here, I love the quizzes and being able to listen to music. I enjoy coming to meet my friends.” - Iris, who has been coming to Westmead twice weekly for over two years
